Some new fabric............... from Exuberant Color

I used to buy at least one color of every new Kaffe fabric but now I only buy the ones I like and sometimes more than one color.  The February fabric was finally delivered to the stores.  I thought this one might make nice bindings but I may end up using some in other projects.  I got 1/2 yard of each.

I had to have several colors of this one.  I got a yard of the red and half yards of the other 3.

This is the last batch of Marcia Derse paired strips, sewn last night.  I also ...

Side by side..................... from Exuberant Color

I couldn't decide whether the strips should run horizontal or vertical so I made one of each.  I was making these to use up the 1.5" and 2.5" Kaffe strips that I had cut several years ago.  I did end up having to cut a few new strips to have enough for both quilts.  The spacer strips in the quilt on the left are in there because I needed a little more width and I didn't want to make any more blocks.  I'm not sure which quilt I like best because I like both of ...

Second quilt finish for March 2026.............. from Exuberant Color

This one has just been called Kaffe Strippy 2 since I started working on it.  You can see Kaffe Strippy 1 here.  I need to make a collage of them side by side since the strips run in opposite directions on the 2 quilts.

This one is 47.5" x 71".  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and it was longarm quilted by Robin Diaz.

The backing is leftover strips from other backings.  I was so happy to find three that looked nice together.

The binding is a zigzag print that worked well with both sides of the ...

First quilt finish for March 2026................. from Exuberant Color

Photographing flannel is a little tricky.  It looks blurry but actually is just soft.  The top was made 2 years ago and finally it is a finished quilt.  It is 53" x 70".  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and it was longarm quilted by Robin Diaz.

The backing is a flannel I found on sale.  It is a little heavier than most flannels and it is a yarn dyed woven design, not a print.  One long panel has the stripe running vertical and the remainder was cut into two crosswise strips and sewn end to end to ...

Quilting...................... from Exuberant Color

I got this little baby quilt quilted last night.  I wasn't sure how I was going to quilt it but ended up ditch quilting the center and wavy lines in the border.  I'll get it trimmed today and cut the binding.  Hopefully I'll get the binding sewn on too and get stared basting another baby quilt.

I pulled out my #48 Flower Basket Kaffe fabric to see if it will work with the 16 patch blocks.  I need to do some measuring to see if it can be cut to a size that will work.

It's ...

Social time........................... from Exuberant Color

My grandson and his wife brought lunch yesterday and then stayed long enough to help me with a couple heavy duty tasks.  Afterwards I did some grocery shopping.

Last night I cut the last stratas into sections and made some more Kaffe 16 patch blocks.  I love busy quilts, and I'm sure a few of you wonder why I'm not using white as every other square to "calm" it down.  I love all of the patterns in the fabric running together.  There are 2 of each of these blocks, so 18 total.

This group of leftover blocks has ...

Catch up day...................... from Exuberant Color

There were lots of little jobs I needed to do to clean up the sewing studio.  First was the staystitching around this quilt.  Now it can be put on a hanger on the rack in the basement, waiting for its backing to be sewn.

While I had a load of laundry in the washer I looked for some leftover pastel 16 patch blocks in the Kaffe orphan box.  If you enlarge this photo you will see the block on the left has selvage showing.  I colored in the part that will show with permanent markers but I'm not sure ...

Cutting............... from Exuberant Color

I decided I needed a little more variety in the triangle blocks for the medallion quilt.  It took me an hour to find my cutting die.  I need to do some cleaning and organizing.

I sewed some of the triangles into squares but didn't turn the iron on last night.

These blocks will go in the column on the right when I get them sewn.

The last 2 flowers on the Amaryllis have opened up.  The red edge on the petals is so delicate it hardly shows up in the photo.

Our warm weather is history now, snow flurries ...

Playing with the medallion............ from Exuberant Color

I found a better strip for the left side of this medallion project.  I also added three more strips to the bottom.  I like it a lot just as it is and could just quilt it and bind it now, but it is only 37" x 49".  The bottom borders are purple but they just show up as dark unless you click on the photo for a closer look.  I need to remember to turn on my extra light shining on the bottom of the design wall when I am taking photos.

So, I'm back to the idea I ...

#2 Quilt top for February 2026................ from Exuberant Color

This top ended up at 48" x 72", much better than the 42" x 60" that it was before adding extra columns and rows.  This Wishwell Weather Report fabric is hard to photograph, the darkest fabrics a little darker than they look in person. This cell phone photo is better than the Canon camera photo.

I looked through my larger yardage pieces and it looks like I'll have enough of these 2 for the backing.  The one on the left is more apricot color than it looks here.

I put my Kaffe medallion center back up on the design ...

First finish for February 2026............. from Exuberant Color

Purple Rosy is finished and I am so happy with the binding and backing as well as the top.  It is 65" x 82" and has Hobbs 80/20 batting.  It was quilted by Robin Diaz.

All of the fabrics are from the Kaffe Fassett Collective, the trio of designers.

The photo above was taken with my Canon camera and this photo was taken with my cellphone.  I think this one is truer color, but something halfway between is probably the closest true color.

This backing fabric has a lavender background.

I cut batting for these two quilts, the next ...

Binding finished................. from Exuberant Color

The binding was finished last night, too late to take it's final photo.

I still can't believe there were so many purples in the Kaffe collective fabrics.  Seeing all of the fabrics on my shelves, stored by number, there didn't seem to be that many.  I sometimes think I should store them by color, but so many of the collective fabrics are multicolor without one clear color standing out.

I love the fabric on the back and I was lucky enough to find it on sale.  It is also from the Kaffe collective group.

While in the ...

Monday night sewing................. from Exuberant Color

I had two sessions of hand stitching last night.  I'm approaching the 4th corner now and part of the next side (a short side) is already stitched.  One more night should do it.  I'm done with PT until the last Friday of the  month so I will have more time at home in the studio for a while.

This is what I worked on between those 2 sessions, 16 more double 4 patch blocks.

There are two blocks alike of each of these, 4 in each combination of fabrics.

And two of each of each block in these ...

A little more................. from Exuberant Color

Not a lot of progress was made on hand stitching Purple Rosy's binding.  I have completed 3 corners so that makes me happy.

I spent many hours working on my computer, searching for photos, cleaning up files, and much more.

Here is another photo of the prettiness I'm looking at as I stitch away.

I'm looking forward to 40 degrees when I leave for PT today.

Binding progress........................ from Exuberant Color

Now I have one and a half sides hand stitched on Purple Rosy.  The long side is 82" so I started with that one.  I'm really happy with this diagonal stripe for the binding.

These are the colors on the needles for this month's dishcloths.

Today will be 30 degrees and then we will be above freezing for a week..or more.  The little bit of snow that was on the grass melted on Friday.  There are still small piles at the side of my driveway.

Decision made...................... from Exuberant Color

Either one of the fabrics I pulled to audition for the binding choice on Purple Rosy would have worked but I ended up choosing the diagonal stripe.  This is the original fabric, not the archive reprint.  I only got about 24" hand stitched last night.

I sewed 2 more combinations of fabrics into Double 4 patches.  There are 2 of each of these, so 8 blocks were sewn.

We got up to 37 degrees yesterday, the first time above freezing in almost 3 weeks.  Now we have 2 colder days over the weekend and then 30s and 40s next week.

Trimmed..................... from Exuberant Color

Purple Rosy has had been trimmed so I will have another binding to do.  I want to finish this one by hand.

That will be good because my main Pfaff machine is having problems.  It has no tension and I have checked everything that I can get to.  I'll bring one of my other machines upstairs.

I looked for binding choices but haven't explored all of the choices yet.  These 2 are possibilities but I need to lay them at the edge of the quilt and see just 3/8" to decide.

Yesterday a friend came over to ...

Little things......................... from Exuberant Color

These 2 little mats have been sitting in my studio waiting for the stitching around the edge for at least 6 months.  All it takes is changing to a topstitching needle and filling a bobbin with the heavier thread.  I kept avoiding doing that.  Finally last night I got them done.  They have one layer of batting and one layer of a stiff heavier interfacing (not as heavy as Peltex).

The backs are Kaffe fabrics too.

They are close to 8.5" x 11", one a tiny bit larger than the other.

There was one more top already pieced so ...

A little bit of everything................. from Exuberant Color

I had a few things to take care of in the basement so while I was down there I got this little quilt ready for basting.  It didn't keep my interest though so I moved on.

My friend who visited on Monday wanted to buy some black and white batik fabrics for this quilt.  I had the fabrics in 2 bins and had large and small pieces all mixed together.

I want to sort through them now and get all of the small pieces in one bin and large pieces in the other bin.  There is a lot more ...

Alternate block auditions................. from Exuberant Color

The blocks I showed yesterday could be used with alternate blocks of one fabric, so I was searching through my stash yesterday.  Fabric #1:  This is a cute little kid print and I have enough to use on the back too.

Fabric #2:  This animal fabric would work.  I have just one yard of it so I would have to look for a different backing.

Fabric #3: I realized as I got to this fabric that I should turn the bright blocks one turn so the narrow edge is going across the quilt and the longer edge is going down ...
